YOU GETEstimated pounds of seed and bag count
Use the product rate appropriate to new seeding or overseeding.

Open Lawn Seed Calculator

BEFORE YOU CALCULATE

Use the numbers you actually have.

Choose the right input first. A calculator can process the values you supply; it cannot replace a seed packet, soil test, product label or a real measurement.

01

Choose the job

Use area for bed size, materials for volume or bags, seeds for dates, or water for measured flow and run time.

02

Measure or check a label

Enter actual dimensions, planting intervals, hose-test results, emitter flow ratings or the nutrient rate from a trusted recommendation.

03

Read the limitation

Review unit conversions, rounding and any warning about weather, settling, pressure, seed quality or the suitability of your chosen rate.

WHAT THE TOOLS DO NOT DECIDE

A useful estimate is not a gardening recommendation.

These calculators estimate geometry, schedule dates, volume or flow from your inputs. They cannot confirm frost risk, recommend a fertilizer rate, diagnose soil conditions or certify that a drip system has adequate pressure. Check local conditions and the relevant packet, product label or specialist guidance before acting.

Each individual calculator explains its own formula and assumptions. For practical background on area, mulch, seed timing and product-rate calculations, see Iowa State University Extension, Iowa State’s mulch guidance, University of Minnesota Extension, and Penn State Extension.
